DESIGNS AND PLANS YOU CAN BEGIN WITH

INTRODUCTION

The Plan Book web pages contain about 30 house plans. These plans are intended only as "thought starter" concepts to help you plan your own home.

Post & Beam does not have rigid pre-set house plans. Our building system is infinitely flexible. We design each of our homes to suit each client's individual needs.

The plans are intended to give you some ideas to work with but they are not in any way to restrict your own design creativity. We'll design whatever you want with you.

The home plans shown cover a size range from 8.9 squares to 18 squares. But do not feel limited by this. They are examples only. We design smaller cosy cottages and "weekenders" and also much larger structures.

MODULAR FORMAT

The plans shown generally have a nominal overall width of 7450mm because this is a passive solar optimum. But you can vary the width to anything you wish - wider or narrower. External walls can even project out in areas you want to have more room. They can also be indented for, say, a courtyard. There are no limits.

The plans also follow a modular format. Each module is an 1800mm slice of the house - like a loaf of bread. At 7450mm width each module represents about 13.4 sq metres (1.5 squares). You can just keep adding or subtracting modules to get the size home you want.

If, for example, you are interested in homes that are about 15 squares then press the " Module 10" button and you will find some "thought starter" plans of about this size.

EXTERNAL MATERIALS, INTERNAL DESIGN

Because the Post & BeamŽ system is non-load bearing (unlike other building methods) neither the internal or external walls support the roof. External walls can be of mud brick, stone, clay brick, timber - or anything else you like.

Also the internal design arrangement has no limitation. You can have whatever you want. The internal walls can also be of any material you desire. You design whatever you want and we'll help you with it.

OTHER CONCEPTS

The Plan Book web pages also contain some other innovative design concepts. Press the "Staging" button and you'll find some examples of how to design and build your home in stages which suit your budget and/or a growing family. Please remember though - they are just examples. We can design any staging concept to suit your own particular requirements.

If you press the "Loft Home" or "Clerestory" buttons you'll discover some additional plan concepts. These pages also have some indicative part-build and full-build prices which might help you with your budget planning.
